Over the weekend, cat campers gathered at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City for two days of education, fun, and camaraderie.

We’ve been lucky enough to interview Christina Ha, the event’s founder and owner of Meow Parlour Cat Café, before this exciting event every year so we had a sneak preview of what was to come but nothing can prepare you for the excitement of actually attending. From the moment you walk in the door, you can feel the energy and the enthusiasm in the room!

After changing locations last year, Cat Camp returned to its original space – a bright airy room with crisp white walls and pretty wood floors. The organizers did a great job giving the event a summer camp feel and on Saturday and Sunday, it was filled with creative vendors, exhibitors, and camp counselors helping crowds of cat enthusiasts learn what they could do to help our feline friends lead happy healthy lives.

The Community Cats Podcast was delighted to participate this year and I was thrilled that Stacy gave me the opportunity to spread the word about the podcast, grant program, blog, and webinars. It's always great to speak with people who are just learning about the show and help them find the resources we offer that can help them help cats. To all those who are checking us out for the first time - welcome to our cat colony!
Being the "technical cat" for the organization, I'm generally a "behind the scenes" so it was a privilege to meet many past guests, listeners and conference attendees in person and even a few CCP ambassadors; I honestly get a little star struck! Hearing where our listeners' passion for cats has lead them is fascinating and hearing more about the projects you're working on and organizations you're working with is inspiring.

The husband and wife duo from Adaptive Tech + Consulting showed off their adaptive walking device for cats and the Mega Feeder 3000 designed for cats suffering from megaesophagus.

Will Zweigart, founder of Flatbush Cats, spent a little time talking to media that attended the event.

It was wonderful to meet staff and volunteers from Animal Care Centers of NYC let me know they attend the Trappers Tips & Tricks webinar we held with Neighborhood Cats and a few other events.

Having gotten to know a few of you, I was more than a little pleased to play matchmaker for several people looking for resources in their area - little did they know the folks they needed to connect with were cat campers too! (Holler at us Connecticut, Ohio and New York organizations. There are volunteers and TNR groups in your states looking for resources, partners and advice. We'd love to help you network with them. Email support@communitycatspodcast.com.)
I personally wasn't able to attend presentations this year since there were so many visitors to our booth but from where I was stationed, every lecture and session looked quite packed and since many of the presenters have been on our show (check out episodes with Kate Benjamin, Jackson Galaxy, Mikel Delgado, Ingrid King, Nikki Martinez, Adam Myatt, and Hannah Shaw)

I also wasn't able to hang out in the cat cafe area, full of kittens chasing toys and snuggling the visitors who came to play with them - this was probably a good thing because I'm not sure I ever would have come back. More intimate sessions were held in that space as well including How to Play with Cats, hosted by Jackson Galaxy, and Kitten Yoga - which looked like lots of fun!

That wasn't your only chance to pet kitties though. Cat Camp had a special area just for visitors to get to know some special adoptable cats. Both adult cats and tiny kittens got lots of attention (including Kiss, a kitty with markings on his face that'd remind you of a certain arena rock band) and a few lucky cats found forever homes over the weekend!
It was absolutely wonderful to be a part of Cat Camp this year and humbling to meet so many people who are working so hard to make sure every kitty is respected, comfortable and safe. We're already looking forward to next year!
