March is Microchipping Madness Month

Can you believe we have already hit the month of March? It seems crazy how quickly the year is going by, but we’re excited because March is Microchipping Madness Month! How do you feel about microchipping your cat? It’s definitely not as prevalent as microchipping in our canine counterparts, but it still is really important!

March is Microchipping Madness Month

This month many of our shows will be focusing on microchipping. We will learn what a microchip is, how it is used, and the pluses and minus’s of microchipping for community cats. I know over the years there have been many incredible success stories about reuniting pets as a result of a microchip. Here is one short story below that shows the possible power of the microchip. I want to thank CCP summary writer, Anna, for sharing this great story!

March is Microchipping Madness Month

When a couple broke up the boyfriend stole their dog and moved from New York City to Indiana.  The owner figured that getting the dog back was a lost cause. But approximately five years later they got a call from someone who found the dog running around in the street and brought him to a veterinarian’s office in Indiana. The dog was scanned and his chip was found with their contact information from New York City! The dog was on the next plane to New York and they reunited, and he’s still living with them! A good story of a time where “outdated” microchip information is actually a good thing.

What do you think about microchipping? Share your comments here and on our Facebook page!

As always there is a lot going on at the Community Cats Podcast. Enjoy this week’s shows.
